Music
Our Music Lead is Carrie Turner.
Our school values - By promoting our school ethos of ‘Respect, Pride, Achieve’, together with our Red Kite Values, our young people will have the character traits, knowledge and skills to make a positive impact on the world.
Intent
C: We develop culture by listening to global music from different composers and times periods and how this affects our current society.
H: We develop physical and mental health by ensuring dexterity in fine motor skills using instruments, and understanding the benefits of listening and playing together in an ensemble.
A: We develop aspirations through access to expert musicians and exploring the careers that children can pursue in the music industry.
I: We develop identity through expression and creativity in composing lyrics and melodies.
R: We develop relationships through collaboration in an ensemble and by travelling to events to build our musical networks.
Our Scheme
Our Music lessons are taught using the Charanga Scheme of music. Each year group have 6 musical units that they study over the course of the year which are broken down into 6 small steps. These units incorporate the 5 interrelated dimensions of music. (Pitch, Rhythm, Structure, Timbre and Harmony)

School music development plan
As set out in the national plan for music education, please find below a summary of our music development plan for 2023-2024. We are doing this to:
- raise awareness of our music development across the curriculum for each academic year.
- promote our music offer to our parents and prospective parents.
- give greater opportunity for schools and music hubs to work together.
This will be reviewed at the beginning of 2024-2024.
